4th of July: Part 2

This is a continuation of my first post 4th of July: Part One. On Tuesday we ventured over to Abilene, Kansas where The Eisenhower Musuem is located.

Here is Evan all ready for a day of exploring! He did great on the trip over and all throughout the day.

Dwight D. Eisenhower was originally from Abilene and his childhood home is still there, in the exact same location it was in so many years ago! Around the home, they've built a musuem and a library in honor of DDH. There is also a meditation chapel where DDE, his wife, and one son are buried. We had a great day spending time together and exploring the history of a great president!

All the furnishings and decorations are original to the home! These quilts were made by DDE's mother. The wallpaper is an exact replica of what was there 100 of years ago. Pretty amazing, huh?! Quilts

This was DDE's mother's sewing machine. I had to take a picture of it since I love to sew. It's crazy to see how different sewing machines were back then.

This was a picture of the living room and sitting room. Again all the furnishings and decorations are original to the home. I am in awe of the excellent condition everything is in!

This is the entrance to the museum section. We learned a lot about DDE while viewing old letters, artifacts, and various memorabila from the past. It was amazing!

The museum had this tv and mixer on display, my mom said this is the tv she remembers having when she was a child and the mixer, she remembers her mom using. Wow!

DDE, his wife, and one of their sons is buried here in Abilene, KS. The grounds had a meditation chapel where their bodies were. We visited the chapel. It was very sweet.
