Today we had a monsterous thunder-hail storm. The day had been beautiful and I was at home watching TV when I started to hear thunder. The storm came up quickly and the sky was the darkest I'd seen in awhile. I turned on the weather channel and all it told me was that we were under a severe thunderstorm warning. WELL....in the next few minutes the storm became MUCH worse. The wind was howling, hail was falling from the sky, and the lightening seemed constant. And what was I doing through all this you ask....I was talking on the phone with one of my best friends catching up. I knew we were having a storm, but it wasn't until later {AFTER the power went out and the wind was swirling around outside} that I thought it might have been a good idea to go across the street to my neighbor's storm shelter.
After the storm had passed, I went outside to survey the house. Some siding had come partly off the side of our house and there was debris everywhere. My neighbor Jenny came home from work and she told me that a tornado had touched down on the other side of town during this storm...scary stuff!! I think I've learned my lesson about storms in Kansas, don't wait until you know for sure about a possible tornado, just go to the shelter first!!
Better to be safe than sorry!
