Our Exciting Drive Home

Today started out as any other Sunday, we went to church and then went to Early Edition for brunch afterwards. On our way home was when it all changed...

We were driving through a shortcut we always take to get home, a street of town homes that are up the hill from where we live. Mark and I both noticed a house that had a lot of smoke coming from it, but by looking closer we saw that a trash can was on fire right in front of the house, in a few minutes that house could have very well caught on fire too! This was a house that has been for sale for awhile and I'm pretty certain that it was not being lived in anymore. Mark called 911 and parked the car. He tried his best to move the fire away from the house and the grass. Another car drove by while all this was going on and they stopped to help us. We knocked on the neighbors door with no success, but they had a hose outside so we hooked it up and Mark attempted to put out the fire. Thankfully the firetruck arrived quickly and they put out the fire before we could with their huge hose. The trash can was totally melted by the time the whole incident was over!

Mark was my hero today, most people wouldn't have gone into this type of situation so calmly and bravely; he took control of the situation and the problem was fixed quickly. He saved the neighborhood from a very possible disaster, we have been in a heat wave here in Kansas {average temperatures have been 105-110 degrees} with no rain for awhile and the grass is so dry. I'm so thankful that we were there to help out when the need was the greatest and that God kept us safe while we helped out!
